Brain – Coming Soon: Memory Chip Implants for the Brain
Brain: Written by Joe DiDonato on June 22, 2011, Elearning! Magazine
Imagine inserting a memory card into your brain, and instantly, you know how to perform a physical or mental task. According to recent articles in the LA Times and elsewhere, itâs apparently not that far away. A team of scientists headed by Dr. Theodore Berger from the University of Southern Californiaâs Viterbi School of Engineering has created a chip that allows rats to instantly âknowâ things.  By simply inserting a prosthetic chip, rats were given short-term learning and memorization capabilities. The chip is capable of storing neural signals, basically functioning as an electronic memory, which in turn allowed the rats to learn tasks and keep those memories in the devices.
